Fight Zika with Sun Protection Swimwear and Clothing

Posted by

Spring break is rapidly approaching and many families are heading to destinations where Zika is common. Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands, Costa Rica, Belize and many other sunny locations south of the US have widespread incidences of Zika virus. Nobody yet knows the long term effects of Zika.Health officials are especially concerned about pregnant women and young children between the ages of 3 to 5. Zika is transmitted by mosquitoes and no vaccine exists so prevention is important.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends using insect repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus or 2-undecanone. However insect repellent is not recommended for babies.

To protect your baby the CDC recommends dressing your baby in clothes that cover the arms and legs. For those taking a beach trip, items such as this are perfect to protect your baby.

For older children the full body coverage "stinger" suit offers sun and “sting” protection.

Cute swim set items for girls offer full coverage in and out of the water, too.

And long sleeve long leg suits and gloves are available to protect adults. Neck-to-ankle-stinger-suitlong-sleeve-swim-jacket-capri-swim-leggings

We don't know the effects of Zika yet, so do everything you can to protect your loved ones this spring break.
